WASTE (2017)
GENRE: SHORT ESSAY FILM RUNNING TIME: 6' FORMAT: DIGITAL FILM + ANALOGUE AND ARCHIVAL PHOTOGRAPHS ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK BY KURO ARCHIVAL IMAGES COURTESY OF LJÓSMYNDASAFU SKAGASTRANDAR DESCRIPTION: In the Norse cosmogony, the finite world is created from the dismembered body of the Primordial Giant, Ymir, perfectly portioned out to fulfil its sublunary function. Set to a visual score that employs archival material to trace the development of commercial fishing in Skagaströnd, Northern Iceland, waste is a meditation on over-consumption, and penury, and the devastating violence of our disproportionate hungers. |
